| So, it turns out I'm not just a moron....I'm cursed:
I was at my grandmother's on Friday to help her get ready for a long
trip and to transport her safely to my house before her flight. I had
been merrily painting and cleaning when I came to one of the last (more
random) items on her list.
I need to preface this by saying that my grandmother is an
amazing artist and has transformed her yard into a master piece using
various cheap as free objects.
The list reads "get rock." Simple enough. This "rock" is actually a bag
of cement down in her creek which has an odd coating of red on it that
is chipped away and peeling (I conjecture it is a discoloration due to
the bag, which is slowly peeling off). So I scramble down the bank into
the creek bed and make my way over to this "rock," finding it to truly
be aesthetically interesting while possibly 50 pounds (no, not 44
pounds, 50). There is no delicate way to extricate a 50 pound wad
of cement out of a creek bed, so I grabbed close to my chest and
traipsed straight through the water, up the bank, through some prickers,
and AHHHH!!!!
Some punk bee is holding onto my ankle (yes the same ankle) while
repeatedly shoving his lower end into my flesh. I throw the rock back
into the creek and tarzan my way out of there and complete the task at
hand.
The cool rock is now nestled nicely next to a cactus and some hostas
while I am left to wonder just what is going to happen next.

| Newsflash: I'm a moron.
Funny thing happened today. So, I
take the day off work to get my life organized and do stuff around the
house (whatever happened to weekends providing time for
this?anyways...). Things are going well, 3rd load of laundry is in,
room is clean, work shoes are on, mower is primed 3 times and off I
go...
...here's my train of thought: man it's humid! This yard's a jungle; I
wonder what those tall stalky things are called. What kind of person
doesn't clean up after their dog? It's nice to be working outside
again. maybe I'll get a tan. AHHHH! [enter franic jumping and slapping
of my right foot!] I wonder if anyone saw that? Must've looked silly...
So I got stung by some rogue bee.
Little punk! I hobbled inside, dressed my wound with moist baking soda
and headed back out, not thinking to examine the area before resuming.
I proceeded to mow the same area and promtly got stung again. Turns out
I ran over a nest and there were 30 or so bees buzzing around giving me
murderous looks. Yup, I'm a moron.

| Ours is a God Who is Good and Changes Not
The following are just 2 quotes from what I read this
morning, which have affected me and exhorted me towards
affirming, trusting, and rejoicing in who God is and not who I think He
is.
Upon
hearing from a young Samuel of God's judgment on his family due to his
son's active rebellion against the Lord Eli replies with these words:
"It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him." 1 Samuel 3:18
Secondly, from Tozer's The Knowledge of the Holy, is a statement that reflects what our posture should be towards the Lord, and in my case, rarely is.
"God will not compromise and He
need not be coaxed. He cannot be pursuaded to alter His Word nor talked
into answering selfish prayer. In all our efforts to find God, to
please Him, to commune with Him, we should remember that all change
must be on our part. "I am the Lord, I change not." We have but to meet
His clearly stated terms, bring our lives into accord with His revealed
will, and His infinite power will become instantly operative toward us
in the manner set forth through the gospel in the Scriptures of
truth." (p. 54)
Finally,
I find it amazingly peaceful to know that my Lord changes not and that
through Christ I am considered "in him." My salvation and hope is found
in a God "with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." My
life is now to be a pursuit of purposefully bending my will to His.
Thankfully, the power to do this lies not in us but again in
all-powerful God through His Gospel and the Holy Spirit. How kind our
God is to not only give us purpose but also the power to fulfill His
purposes that we may see results and boast in Him.

| We need to help our boys out!
Combining
Rupert Sheldrake's philosophy of Morphic Fields and Carl Jung's
thoughts on the collective unconscious, I believe we can really help
out our lackluster national team to get a serious boost in skills.
Here's the basic premise:*
1.) Morphic fields: Basically
these are over-riding clouds of thoughts and abilities that are
specific generally to species. For instance, rats have been trained in
the U.S. to traverse water mazes so as they gain speed with practice.
At some later date, different rats are placed in the same maze in
Australia where they are markedly faster than the American rats were
upon first exposure to the maze. (You still tracking? Me neither) The
theory is that the Morphic field (like a radio transmitter) grows
stronger as the American rats learn; hence, the Australian rats (radio
receivers) are better at traversing mazes.
2). Collective Unconscious: There
are differing opinions about this from one psychologist to another, but
Carl Jung believes Humans to have a mind storage type facility, similar
to morphic fields but more explained through symbols (archetypes). For
my purposes, the most important thing is that people are connected
regardless of spatial orientation. So everyone in the world has an
inate archetype of mothers, heros, death, and so forth. So why not an
archetype of WINNING?

So here's the idea. Everyone get outside and start
playing soccer (preferably winning at soccer). Particularly, find
Italians that will play you. Beat them into a nice tomato puree
boosting American skills and mentality of winning while having the
converse effect on Italian soccer. It can't go wrong, right? So yea,
start playing soccer, and lots of it, before Saturday.
*I in no way claim to know what I'm
talking about when it comes to these ideas and do not in any way
present them before you as credible truth. It is fun to ponder though.
Enjoy
